Type Locality and Naming
By Mt. Kayrak, Baysuntay Mountains, Gissar Range. E.M. Golovin in 1942 (382, p. 85). “-Perm” qualifier added in the Lexicon name to distinguish it from the Kayrak (Kayrak-Ord Fm) in Chatkal-Kuramin region and in the Mogoltay mountains of Tajikistan.
Synonym: Kairakskaya Formation, Кайракская св.
Lithology and Thickness
Mainly volcanogenic rocks of effusive and explosive facies, represented by trachyandesibasalts, trachybasalts, basalts, trachyandesites, and their tuffs. In subordinate amounts, volcanomict sandstones, gravels, conglomerates. Up to 730 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Unconformably overlies the Gumatag Fm
Upper contact
Unconformably overlain by the Sandzhar Fm.
Regional extent
Gissar Range, south of the Baysuntay Mountains, small outcrops in the south of the Surkhan Mountains.
